PASSA Youth Data & Privacy Policy

This Policy describes the information we collect within the PASSA Youth platform and how we make use of this information. It states our set of principles used to ensure that personal data is collected, used and protected in a way that considers individuals’ privacy and any risks that may come to them from not adequately safeguarding their data.

What kinds of information do we collect?

  • Relevant personal data (also referred to as personal information or details). This is the information that you share in your sign up form and personal profile, which includes your name, age, photo, personal bio, social media links and personal contact.
  • Your engagement. This is the information you share by commenting on stories, sharing tips and tricks and whenever contacting a project manager or community manager. We also collect information that the platform provides on your activity such as your likes, # comments, # of shares on social media, # badges you collect, amongst others.
  • Content you share. This is the information you share on your Rollouts, Stories and Activities, including photos, quotes, articles, videos and resources that you share.
  • Your usage. We collect information about how you use the PASSA Youth platform, such as the types of content that you view or engage with, the language you use the platform in,  the features you use and the actions you take.
  • Device usage & cookie data: your location and time zone, IP address, data from cookies stored on your device, including cookie IDs and settings.

How do we use this information?

We use the information that we collect from you to ensure you have a positive and safe experience on our platform as well as having the opportunity to connect and share with the PASSA network. Here is how we use it:

  • To improve our product. We use the information we collect from you to continuously improve the PASSA Youth platform based on your activity and level of engagement. Our technical team is continuously reviewing the PASSA platform for any technical issues or challenges users face in their usability.
  • For improving our network. PASSA Youth is an international network. We collect your personal data and information shared to understand the profile of our users, their interests, needs and motivations for engagement. This information helps us to strengthen and improve the network as well as our PASSA Youth approach worldwide.
  • For impact measurement. It is important for PASSA Youth to have the ability to track the number of facilitators in their network as well as the impact of the PASSA Youth approach. Therefore, the information you share about your personal profile, the information regarding the progress of your rollouts or stories, and your learnings shared amongst each other, are all ways we can gather qualitative and quantitative data on the success and impact of our programme.
  • For showcasing our success. We will use information shared by you in stories, resources or activities and tips and tricks in external communication channels in order to showcase the success and impact of the PASSA Youth approach. Quotes, stories, photos, amongst others can be shared by us in any of our PASSA social media channels, newsletters, articles, events, etc.
  • To promote safety, integrity and security. We use the information that we have to verify accounts and activity, combat harmful conduct, detect and prevent spam and other bad experiences, maintain the integrity of our platform, and promote safety and security of our users.
  • To communicate with you. We use the information that we have to have closer contact with all of our PASSA Youth facilitators and members. It is a space where we provide you with information and updates about PASSA. The PASSA platform is also a space where you can make use of the information provided to connect with other members and share learnings, experiences and resources. We also use your information to respond to you when you contact us or when you experience difficulties or doubts.
  • Information moderation. The project managers and community managers of the PASSA Youth platform have the ability to moderate, flag inappropriate or offensive content and delete comments when necessary. We stand by our word to ensure our users respect and feel safe when engaging with the platform.

How do we share this information?

  • The Personal information we collect about you is only shared with our partners. We value your privacy and safety, therefore your personal information is only accessible internally by the PASSA Youth network and founding organisations: IFRC & Habitat for Humanity.
  • Content you share in the platform may be shared externally. Some of the content you share in your stories page regarding Rollouts, training, experiences, etc, can be used for marketing purposes of PASSA Youth and can be featured in different platforms such as social media, newsletters, articles, etc. Before posting content that contains your personal details or those of others (including photographs, locations, names, etc), please review the Passa Youth House Rules. Whenever the content you post contains personal data, it will only be shared according to IFRC’s Policy on the Protection of Personal Data.

We also value the use of data protection within our Rollouts and community interventions. Please have a look at our Data Protection Do’s and Dont’s regarding the PASSA methodology and approach.

Data retention, account deactivation and deletion

We store data while you are an active user and contributing to the PASSA platform. When your account has been inactive for more than a year, your account will be deactivated and you will be required to reactivate your account by signing in again. When your account is deactivated, your previous data is still stored and being used for internal purposes only such as impact measurement and admin monitoring of users in the PASSA Youth network.

When you delete your account, all information that you have posted, such as your profile, photos, personal biography, social media links, amongst other personal information will be deleted from the PASSA Youth platform. All your activity such as comments, likes and badges received will also be deleted. Your stories will not be deleted, but your profile name will no longer be attached to that story. Rollouts that also include other team members will also not be deleted, but will have your profile name removed from the relevant rollouts. 

Important note: when you delete your account your personal data will still be stored in our databases for impact measurement purposes. You may request this data to be deleted by contacting the PASSA Youth admin via this email: info@passayouth.org
